I worked out for 100 days in a row

Why and how I’ve made it work

As of today, I’ve worked out for 105 days in a row. 💪

And I’m not stopping here.

First, some backstory of how I got into this mess and how I’m getting out of it.

This November will be 10 years since I founded Podia.

In 2014, I was a pretty fit guy, about 165 pounds on any given day, but the stress of starting yet another business would take its toll on me, especially those early years.

I’m a stress eater through and through, and those pre-product/market fit years where Podia was trying to make a name for itself really got the better of me.

I was so focused on doing anything to get users and revenue, that I was completely disregarding my health by eating poorly, not working out much, spending way too much time at the computer, and having a few too many pints of ice cream.

I went from 165 pounds to 205 pounds in 10 years.

Not a day would go by when I wouldn’t think about it.

I’d try and fail to get back on track.

On many occasions over the past 10 years, I’d commit to working out 3-4x a week, miss a day, and soon 3-4x a week would become 1-2x a week and I’d make very little progress.

Then I watched a YouTube video — sadly, I can’t find it — where an older man about 65 years old was asked by a young YouTuber on the streets of Miami how he was in such great shape.

The older guy responded that he’s been working out every single day for the past 15 years.

The YouTuber looked astonished and the older guy said something like, “I know myself, and as long as I never miss a day, I’ll never fall off.”

Inspired, I decided to never miss a workout day, no matter what, and I haven’t looked back since.

Here’s my routine.

I alternative the following:

Strength day (40+ minutes of exercise)

  • 30+ minutes strength

  • 10+ minutes yoga/core/pilates

Yoga and core (30+ minutes of exercise)

  • 20+ minutes yoga

  • 10+ minutes core/pilates

Yes, absolutely no rest days.

I’m sure plenty of fitness gurus would argue that not having a rest day is bad, but this routine works for me.

In terms of what exercises I do, I’ve found that Apple Fitness works for me. There’s a great variety of trainers, classes, and different types of workouts to choose from.

And the icing on the cake is that I’ve also gone 105 days without dessert, although I do plan to eventually reintroduce dessert on certain special occasion days throughout the year: my birthday, my wife’s birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and so on.

I’ll mark those days in my calendar and keep it to 10 or fewer days a year.

While I haven’t lost a lot of weight so far (only about ~5 pounds), I’ve gotten a lot stronger, my gut has shrunk, my face looks better, I’ve got a ton more energy, I’m sleeping better, my balance and agility are improving, and I’m a lot stronger than I once was.

I hope maybe this post can be an inspiration to you like the old man was to me.

This section once listed the startups I’d founded and other accomplishments, but that stuff doesn’t mean much to me anymore (maybe I’m just old?). These days I’m just focused on making Podia better every day and spending time with my wife, dog, and the people who matter.
