Your website should not do anything more than this

  • Spencer Fry

Ditch the bloat and focus on these simple steps

Having a good website is easy if you don’t fill it with a bunch of bloat.

First, do the research:

  1. Figure out who your target audience is

  2. Find out what they care about

  3. Find out what their goals are

  4. Find out what their pain points are

  5. Find out what problems they have around buying and what’s stopping them

  6. Find out what’s going to make them buy

Second, design and write the copy:

  1. Tell the fucking facts

  2. Give the information clearly

  3. Write to your target audience and nobody else

  4. Describe your audience’s pain points

  5. Write copy to their goals

  6. Tell them what is unique about your product

  7. Tell them what you do differently

  8. Add some personality

Congrats! You have a good website.

This section once listed the startups I’d founded and other accomplishments, but that stuff doesn’t mean much to me anymore (maybe I’m just old?). These days I’m just focused on making Podia better every day and spending time with my wife, dog, and the people who matter.
