Urgency

Podia is a small-but-mighty team, and to be competitive with larger companies in our market, we need to have a sense of urgency with everything we do.
It’s a competitive advantage for us to not only make quick decisions, but also to act on them fast without getting bogged down in over-thinking and end up in “what if” land. This risk aversion naturally creeps into large companies as they grow over time, and it’s poison.
As a small company, if your people can take action even twice as fast as your competitors, you can get a lot more done than they can. Even if the actual work you do takes longer because of your resource constraints, having a sense of urgency will lead you to doing more throughout the year.
I’ve rarely seen a company regret moving quickly on something, but even if it does happen, having an extreme sense of urgency will let you correct yourself faster than others, too.
Never will I ever regret moving fast, but I will always feel awful if we’re moving slow because we’re giving up one of the core advantages of being a small team.
Getting some things wrong is a tax on moving quickly, but I’ll gladly pay it every time to end up so far ahead.

This section once listed the startups I’d founded and other accomplishments, but that stuff doesn’t mean much to me anymore (maybe I’m just old?). These days I’m just focused on making Podia better every day and spending time with my wife, dog, and the people who matter.
